The National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA), the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) and the Edison Electric Institute (EEI) are celebrating National Lineworker Appreciation Day on July 10.

More than 140 members of Congress also are observing National Lineworker Appreciation Day by co-sponsoring resolutions to honor America’s lineworkers.

“National Lineworker Appreciation Day is a significant occasion to recognize the vital contributions of our nation’s lineworkers,” said NECA CEO David Long. “These brave men and women work tirelessly, often in perilous conditions, to build, service, and restore our transmission and distribution infrastructure across America. Their dedication and expertise are essential to our daily lives and our nation’s future. We are proud to honor their commitment and celebrate their crucial role in keeping this country functioning.”

National Lineworker Appreciation Day is celebrated annually on July 10 because it marks the day Henry Miller, a lineworker and the first IBEW president, suffered a fatal fall from a utility pole.

“Make no mistake, our lineworkers are America’s true heroes, always on the frontlines of every disaster, working 24/7 to keep the lights on in our communities,” said Kenneth W. Cooper, IBEW international president. “Our nation wouldn’t run without them, which is why we take this day to remember their sacrifices and salute their service.”

“EEI and our member electric companies salute our nation’s lineworkers and the incredibly important work they do every day,” said Dan Brouillette, EEI’s president and CEO. “In the face of disaster, lineworkers stand ready to support and to rebuild, dedicating their lives to restoring electricity and hope to the customers and communities they serve. They are heroes, and we are grateful for their commitment to keeping the lights on.”

NECA, IBEW and EEI urge people to #ThankALineworker.
