The market for electric vehicles may experience its ups and downs, but owner satisfaction remains unphased. In fact, it couldn’t be much higher.

According to the results of the “2026 Annual EV Driver Survey” released by the nonprofit Plug In America, “EV drivers love their vehicles.”

The sixth annual survey was intended to capture the complete picture of the consumer EV driver experience in the United States. It covered such aspects as loyalty, consumer confidence, charging and the experience of purchasing or leasing.

The survey had several notable findings. Overall, they point to a group of consumers that are extremely happy with the product they have acquired. This is great news for electrical contractors who install EV charging infrastructure.

For example, the survey finds that “EV drivetrain loyalty” continues to grow, with 94.3% of EV drivers saying that they are likely or very likely to acquire another EV for their next vehicle. That is a 2-percentage-point increase from last year.

The survey also found that owning an EV helps alleviate concerns. After acquiring an EV, respondents experienced fewer concerns about battery range, price and public charging availability.

Cost savings remain a strong motivating factor for owning an EV. According to the survey, 91% of respondents agree that they save money by driving an EV, and nearly 95% say their EV is cheaper to fuel and easier to maintain than a gas car.

On the subject of public charging, satisfaction is increasing with public charging networks. The Tesla Supercharger Network remains the gold standard, but the number of drivers who experienced problems using a different network has decreased by almost 10% from last year. 

In head-to-head competition, EVs beat gas-powered cars on all the points that matter. According to the survey, more than 90% of EV drivers consider their vehicles to be more fun to drive, easier to maintain, and cheaper to fuel than their gas counterparts. More than 94% of EV drivers also consider their vehicles to be convenient, reliable and safe.
