Electrical conduit joining techniques vary by conduit type, and each approach offers unique benefits based on application needs. Here’s an overview of recommended methods for joining fiberglass conduit:

Champion Duct®

Champion Duct® offers easy installation with high fire, corrosion and impact resistance for below-ground, concrete-encased and under-bridge applications. Here’s a breakdown of the joining options available:

Interference Joint

Ideal for below-ground concrete encasement, this method features a durable connection with the following characteristics:

  • Design: Bell and spigot with buttress-type male threads; belled end features female mating threads
  • Benefits: Tapered threads for a quick, simple assembly without the use of epoxy adhesive as well as a concrete-tight (not watertight) joint with 1,000 lbs. pull-out strength (adhesive not required)
  • Sizes available: IPS (2- to 8-in. diameters) and ID (2- to 6-in. diameters)
  • Additional applications and considerations: The interference joint connection can be used for above-ground installations when conduit sections are connected with epoxy adhesive to make a tight lock joint.

Gasket Joint (Triple Seal)

Best suited for direct burial and underground concrete embedment, the gasket joint ensures a secure fit with these features:

  • Design: Spigot and bell with a triple-seal gasket set into a permanent groove with interference joint
  • Benefits: Watertight, concrete-tight, with up to 2,000 lbs. pull-out strength; no threads needed for 500 lbs. pull-out strength
  • Sizes available: IPS (¾- to 8-in. diameters) and ID (2- to 6-in. diameters)

Tight Lock Joint

This permanent joint uses Champion Mix® epoxy adhesive for high-strength, watertight connections in both above and below-ground settings:

  • Design: Adhesive applied to the spigot end and inserted into the belled end for a tight seal
  • Benefits: Strong, water-tight joint connection
  • Sizes available: IPS and ID conduits 2 in. and above in SW, MW and HW epoxy resin

Champion Haz Duct® XW Type

Straight Socket Joint

The straight socket joint is versatile, suitable for various applications and compatible with Champion Duct SW, MW and HW conduits.

  • Design: Bell and spigot, with the spigot sliding easily into the belled end
  • Benefits: High pull-out strength, concrete and watertight with Champion Mix® epoxy adhesive
  • Sizes available: IPS ¾- to 1½-in. diameters*, ID 8- to 12-in. diameters** and XW conduits (all diameters)
  • Applications: Suits below-ground, direct-buried, concrete-encased, watertight joint, below-ground, concrete-encased and under-bridge or above-ground installations.

Champion Fiberglass® offers a range of joining solutions designed for reliable, durable connections across various installation environments.
