As summer begins to wind down, our industry looks ahead to one of the most anticipated events of the year, the NECA Convention & Trade Show. Taking place October 4–7 in Las Vegas, this year’s event carries even greater significance as we celebrate NECA’s 125th anniversary. Honoring a legacy that began in 1901 is monumental as this association continues to shape the future of electrical construction today.

This month, many of us gathered in Buffalo, N.Y., the birthplace of NECA, to commemorate this remarkable milestone. It was there, 125 years ago, that 49 visionary electrical contractors recognized the need for a unified national voice. Together, they laid the foundation for an association built on collaboration, professionalism, advocacy, education and an unwavering commitment to advancing our industry.

Standing in the city where NECA was born served as a powerful reminder that our greatest achievements have always come when we work together. Those founders could not have imagined today’s electrical industry: an industry leading the buildout of A.I.-enabling data centers, modernizing the electric grid and delivering the technologies that power nearly every aspect of modern life. Yet they would undoubtedly recognize the entrepreneurial spirit, honorable craftsmanship and dedication that continue to define NECA contractors.

That same spirit will be on full display in Las Vegas. This year’s convention and trade show will be unlike any other. Alongside world-class education, unmatched networking and one of the industry’s premier trade shows, we’ll celebrate 125 years of innovation and leadership with special exhibits, historical experiences and opportunities to honor the people and companies that built NECA into what it is today. It will be a celebration of our past and a launchpad for our future.

The timing couldn’t be more fitting.

The second part of the Profile of the Electrical Contractor explores how contractors are evolving their businesses, refining operations and preparing for what’s next. The findings reinforce a truth that has carried NECA through 125 years: our industry is remarkably resilient, and success belongs to those willing to innovate while remaining grounded in the values that built this profession.

That balance between heritage and innovation is exactly what defines NECA.

For 125 years, our association has adapted to every technological revolution, from the electrification of America to the digital age. As we gather this October, I hope you’ll take time to celebrate how far we’ve come while also embracing the extraordinary opportunities ahead.
