The bright green LED indicates the tester is powered on, and, when voltage is detected, a bright red LED illuminates and an audible tone will sound.

Ideal Industries’ 61-657 dual-range noncontact voltage tester can sustain a drop from 6.6 ft. and provides noncontact voltage detection through an antenna enclosed in plastic at the tip of the tester, which senses the presence of the electromagnetic field around live conductors. The tip is illuminated by a green LED when powered on and switches to a red flashing LED and audible beep that increase in frequency as the voltage level increases.

If the main unit is plugged into an operational RJ-45 socket, it will give a continuous warning tone and display if a telephone voltage is present on any of the pins.
