Safety gets the spotlight this month, but that doesn’t mean it will be forgotten the rest of the year. A topic as important as safety commands continuous attention.

The NECA Show, to be held Sept. 27–30, 2014, in Chicago, will offer programs and resources to help contractors remain equipped and informed about the latest safety concerns.

The show will feature three different tracks where attendees can get hands-on education. They can attend courses before and during the convention and technical workshops on the convention floor.

The lineup of education courses is still in development, but plans are in the works for several safety topics. They may include one or more of the following: creating or evaluating company safety programs; electrical grounding and bonding; the National Electrical Code; OSHA rules and regulations, including hazard communication requirements, silica, injury and illness reporting, and confined spaces for construction; temporary construction power; and understanding and decision-making with NFPA 70E.

Technical workshops covering safety issues include the following: Suspect, Counterfeit and Fraudulent Electrical: Targeting Authenticity; Distracted Driving—It Happens in the Blink of an Eye; Wire Installation Safety & Productivity; Electrical Measurement Safety: Avoiding Hidden Hazards and Understanding Safety Standards; NFPA 70E: Understanding the Arc Flash; and Medium Voltage Cable Preparation Workshop: Ensuring Safety & Consistency While Saving Time.

All technical workshops will be offered during the convention hours and are free.

Exhibitors and vendors will also be talking about safety. The list includes more than two dozen companies and organizations showcasing a variety of products under the broad umbrella of safety. Some examples are 3M, ADI, Advanced Motor Controls, AEMC Instruments, American Polywater Corp., American Technical Publishers, Cambria County Association for the Blind and Handicapped, CableOrganizer.com, Cementex Products, Contractors Choice Inc., Copper Development Association, DAS Simplified, Facility Results, Federated Insurance, Fire-Lite Alarms, Graybar, Greenlee, Hubbell Lighting, JLG Industries, Klein Tools, L.H. Dottie Co., Marking Services Inc., Milwaukee Tool, NJATC FR Apparel, Orbit Industries and Lighting, RANDL Industries, Rectorseal, Schneider Electric/Square D, Thomas & Betts, Trimble, and Westex.
