Light-emitting diode (LED) technology seems to be all the rage in the lighting industry, and those in the know are more than aware of its many benefits. However, for the average consumer, the world of LEDs is still an unknown.

A 2014 study commissioned by Osram Sylvania found that the consumer perception of LEDs still needs to be improved. Roughly one-third of Americans report lighting issues in their home that could be alleviated by using LEDs, but most consumers are just not knowledgeable enough to make the jump.

As a result, Osram Sylvania has launched the Discover LED Lighting campaign, which can be found at www.sylvania.com/discover-led-lighting. There, visitors can find an interactive infographic showing the possibilities of LED lighting in the home, a video touting the technology’s long life span, more information about the 2014 survey and a guide for those looking to buy their first LED lamp from Sylvania.

“With the phase-out of the most popular incandescent bulbs comes a new world of lighting for consumers,” said Pamela Price, Osram Sylvania retail marketing manager, in a press release. “While many consumers are not utilizing LED lighting in key areas of their home, those who do are extremely satisfied with the results.”

The survey confirms this, stating that 90 percent of those surveyed who already use LED lighting in their homes were highly satisfied with the results. Areas of satisfaction include the lamp’s lifespan, brightness, color and price.

The survey findings shed more light on the fact that many consumers are still using incandescent lamps in their home and are growing frustrated, but they are likely unaware that a solution is readily available. The Discover LED campaign hopes to show consumers the benefits this newer technology can provide.
