On October 8, 2016, the Birmingham Electrical JATC and IBEW Local No. 136 assisted in the setup and takedown at Oktoberfest Trussville, an annual event in Trussville, Ala., that raises money for local charities.
The event, hosted by volunteers from the Holy Infant of Prague Catholic Church in Trussville, featured live music, authentic German food and activities for the whole family. Money raised at the event was donated to the Special Olympics, the Trussville Ecumenical Assistance Ministry, Independence Place, Boy Scouts of America, St. Vincent de Paul Society and the Holy Infant of Prague building fund.
“We talk to the apprentices about volunteering and being a part of something much larger than ourselves,” said Matthew G. Dudley, training director, Birmingham Electrical JATC, Birmingham, Ala. “The Oktoberfest provides a venue for our apprentices to get out into the community and give of themselves for a worthy cause.”
All in all, a total of $25,000 was donated to the charities listed above, according to Paul Chatta, member of the Oktoberfest Trussville committee. Food donations were also accepted.
