Safety is—and always will be—the foundation of our industry, both mentally and physically. Whether on the job site, on the road or in the office, every decision we make reflects our commitment to protecting our people and ensuring every worker goes home safely at the end of the day. As we continue to innovate and grow, it’s important that we remain vigilant about emerging safety topics and best practices.

For instance, water purification is a safety concern as it relates to public health on job sites and in disaster recovery environments. Access to clean, safe water is a necessity.

We are also witnessing a rapid evolution in personal protective equipment. High-tech wearables are changing the game, offering real-time health monitoring, fatigue alerts and environmental hazard detection. These advancements empower our workforce and provide an additional layer of safety that complements traditional PPE. Investing in these technologies is an investment in our people.

With May being National Electrical Safety Month, we continue to address and prevent the most common OSHA violations. From fall protection to hazard communication, electrical safety and lockout/tagout procedures, maintaining rigorous training and compliance protocols is non-negotiable. It’s not just about avoiding fines—it’s about preventing injuries and saving lives.

To dive deeper into these critical issues, there is the NECA Safety Professionals Conference, which is happening in Des Moines, Iowa, from May 19–21. This gathering is the premier event for safety leaders in our industry, offering hands-on training, expert panels and networking opportunities that help you stay at the forefront of safety innovation. Our commitment to safety is what sets us apart. By embracing new technologies, staying informed and prioritizing a culture of safety leadership, we strengthen our entire industry.

Stay safe, stay vigilant, and I hope to see you in Des Moines.
