For the second year in a row, Verizon’s FiOS Internet service was rated the best Internet service provider (ISP) in the United States in PC Magazine’s reader survey. The survey, conducted between April 7 and May 14, 2008, asked PC Magazine readers to rate their ISPs, including fiber-based service, DSL, cable and satellite. Readers evaluated their provider in 11 categories, ranging from speed and reliability to initial setup and overall rating.
FiOS received an 8.6 overall score. It also collected the highest score among all ISPs for speed (9.0), reliability (8.7), initial setup (8.2), ISP-provided e-mail (8.0) and likelihood of choosing the ISP (8.7).
Earlier this year, Verizon FiOS -Internet also was named a winner in PC World magazine’s “The 100 Best Products of 2008,” the second year in a row the broadband service made that list.
Verizon FiOS offers download speeds up to 50 megabits per second in 10 states, and the company plans to reach more
than 18 million people by 2010. Currently, FiOS is available in California, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Indiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Texas, Virginia and Washington.
