If you have had to install end-of-the-line resistors on fire alarm devices, you have probably found that the thin lead is hard to situate under the terminal. The resistor is hard to situate, the leads are not insulated and, as a result, they break easily. To remedy this problem, all you need to do is electrically solder a 4-inch stranded No. 14 THHN piece of wire to each end of the resistor. For insulation and protection, put heat shrink over the resistor and the soldered leads. Land the soldered-on leads under the terminal, tuck the insulated resistor into the box, and attach the device. (illustration by BonoTom)
