According to the New Haven Register, a Meriden, Connecticut-based contractor has won a contract to install a new generator at the headquarters of the police department, which in May arrested its owner for running a prostitution ring.
"We have the competitive bidding system here that is managed through the town’s Purchasing Department," said Lt. Marc Mikulski, police spokesman. "When the bids come back, if they meet all our legal requirements, then we have to accept the low bid as the winner. [The contractor] hasn’t been convicted of anything yet, so for us to deny him the work would be discriminatory."
The company was the lowest of seven bidders for the contract. Since the arrest, the company has been awarded at least two other state contracts. EC
