As we head out the door for work, our kids head to the bus. Classes are in full swing by now. But who’s to say learning stops?

Fortunately, jobs slow down toward the end of the year, so we can focus on preparing our teams for the surge of projects to come. This period is the perfect window to educate ourselves and catch up on best practices, technology and innovation. Of course, this was easily accomplished at the NECA Convention and Trade Show, but that’s only the beginning.

Education is a cornerstone of NECA services. Various educational programs and sessions throughout the year have kept my company and me in top shape amid a changing industry. Our specialties are getting more complex, and growing knowledge is essential to advancing ourselves and our businesses.

Today, there are courses tailored for all levels of experience covering estimating, business development, codes and standards, project management and more. This content enables workers to perform their jobs more efficiently and prepares them for future opportunities and responsibilities within their organizations. Investing in our own companies expands everyone’s capabilities and increases our profits. When our skills are sharp, our companies become efficient at the highest level.

Education isn’t just sitting in a class and jotting down bullet points, either! The Chapter Outreach Program connects contractors with industry sponsors from the NECA Industry Alliance Network on a local level. The latest breakthroughs and innovations to enhance our operations are delivered through presentations and hands-on demonstrations at your chapters’ offices.

This leads to an immediate return on investment. I’ve had the pleasure of continuing my education through conversations with many of you since I began my term as president. With a pencil, a mouse or a product, let’s seek knowledge at the edge of the industry and take electrical construction to new heights.
