As an industry, electrical contractors are stronger together than we are apart. Collaboration is crucial to our process, as multiple stakeholders work together to design, build and integrate electrical systems. New technology and emerging trends have changed the standard perception of electrical contracting. For example, cloud-based project management platforms, mobile applications and software tools allow field personnel to access project information and track progress more effectively. There is no one-size-fits-all procedure as the industry is constantly evolving, but the need for teamwork, communication and shared planning will never change.

Design-build projects will always require collaboration between designers, contractors and clients to ensure that electrical systems are seamlessly integrated. Electrical engineers work alongside architects, structural engineers and other professionals to develop integrated designs that meet clients’ requirements. Building Information Modeling is a collaborative tool that allows for real-time cooperation, clash detection and coordination among different trades, helping to reduce errors, improve efficiency and enhance project outcomes.

Our NECA contractors are always networking with peers to learn new techniques that will make their workflow more efficient. This includes vendor collaboration and cross-state partnerships for prefabrication and modular construction. The off-site fabrication of electrical components such as panels, conduit assemblies and wiring systems requires support from all tradespeople on the project to ensure transportation and installation run smoothly.

As a trade association, it is NECA’s responsibility to provide industry-specific training programs, certifications and apprenticeships. NECA works with the IBEW, other trade associations and members to develop a skilled workforce that can adapt to the changing electrical construction landscape. Through this operational guidance and encouragement of communication, the industry can enhance efficiency, reduce errors and deliver successful projects.
