America’s electrical construction industry stands at a defining moment. The work we do—powering data centers, installing EV charging infrastructure, modernizing the grid and wiring the buildings that define our cities—has never been more essential. Yet, we face a simple truth: the demand for skilled electricians, technicians and project managers far outpaces the supply. Workforce development is a priority and the foundation of our future.

At NECA, we see this challenge every day through our 118 chapters and thousands of members nationwide. Contractors are ready to meet the growing energy and infrastructure needs of this country, but they need people—both in the field and in the office—who have the training, confidence and commitment to excel in a rapidly evolving industry.

Electricians are the backbone of the clean energy economy. As we electrify transportation, integrate renewable energy and strengthen our national grid, our industry’s expertise is indispensable. But workforce development extends beyond the job site. Every successful project depends on skilled estimators, project managers, safety professionals, engineers and administrative teams. These are high-tech, high-skill and high-reward careers that offer life-changing opportunities.

That’s why NECA continues to invest heavily in education, training and outreach. Through our partnership with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) and the electrical training ALLIANCE, we operate one of the most advanced apprenticeship and continuing education systems in the world. There has never been a more exciting time to be in the electrical contracting industry.

The future of our nation’s infrastructure depends on people who can build it. Every new transmission line, hospital, semiconductor plant and smart building requires skilled professionals who understand safety, technology and precision craftsmanship.

Our message is clear: the electrical industry offers more than jobs—it offers purpose. It powers communities, drives innovation and shapes the future of America’s economy. NECA will continue leading the way to ensure we have the workforce our country needs, because when we build careers, we build the nation.
