Registration Announced for Second Annual Ideal National Championship

According to a press release from Ideal Industries Inc., registration was announced on March 24 for the second annual Ideal National Championship. The competition, which Ideal says was designed “to honor and showcase the abilities of electrical professionals, students and apprentices,” gives participants a chance to win more than $500,000 in cash and prizes.

To participate, contestants first need to register and compete in one of the qualifying round events being held by electrical distributors, trade schools and other organizations across the nation through October 1.

Competition is divided between professional and students/apprentices, and participants can compete as an individual or as part of a team of up to three people. Individuals can also compete in as many qualifying events as they like to improve their score.

At these events, contestants will complete a challenge testing their skills in pulling wire, cutting, stripping, termination and testing. They will be judged on their speed and the overall accuracy of the wire connection.  

Qualifying round rankings will be posted and updated daily on the Ideal National Website. The fastest professional and student/apprentice from each of the 63 designated territories, and the top five professional teams and top five student/apprentice teams will compete in the National Championship on November 10–11 in Disney's Coronado Springs Resort, Lake Buena Vista, Fla. All competitors advancing to the National Championship will receive free lodging, meals and transportation, and a 13-piece tool kit (valued at $325 dollars).

The top five professional tradesmen, top five student/apprentices (who participated as individuals), and the top two professional and top two student/apprentice teams from the 2016 National Championship will also return to compete.

Prizes at the National Championship include:

Individual - Professional

1st place - $75,000 | 2nd place - $25,000 | 3rd place - $10,000

Individual - Student/Apprentice

1st place - $30,000 + $5,000 to the trade school | 2nd place - $20,000 | 3rd place - $10,000

Team - Professional (split amongst teammates)

1st Place - $60,000

Team - Student/Apprentice (split amongst teammates)

1st Place - $30,000 + $5,000 to the trade school
