ON HIGH GROUND, among the rolling hills of Pensacola, Fla., sits a building in balance with its environment. The Navy Federal Credit Union’s Heritage Oaks call center was designed with employee comfort and health in mind.
“The idea was to try to bring the outside in,” said Ebb Ebbesen, Navy Federal’s senior vice president. “We’ve tried to make this facility as attractive as possible. We want to be members of the community and don’t want to be a drain on the environment and economy. And, we want to be efficient users of energy.”The credit union is the only official Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) building in the Pensacola area. The U.S. Green Building Council, a nonprofit organization created to establish a common standard of measurement for green buildings, devised LEED ratings. EC
