Little Old Lady Can Download Faster Than You

According to the Associated Press, a 75-year-old woman in Karlstad, Sweden, is now the proud owner of what is believed to be the fastest residential uplink in the world. Her 40-gigabit-per-second fiber-optic connection is so fast that, in theory, she could be able to download a full-length movie in under 2 seconds.

The speed is generated through the use of a new modulation technique that allows data to be sent between two routers located about 1,240 miles apart without the need of transponders in between. Helping make it possible were Karlstad network unit head Hafsteinn Jonsson and the woman’s son, a networking expert living in California.

“We wanted to show that that there are no limitations to Internet speed,” Jonsson said.   EC
