As part of its ongoing commitment to education and to support the community of electrical professionals, Leviton Manufacturing Co., Melville, N.Y., announced the start of the Smart Community campaign, a free educational training program designed to arm distributors with critical materials and training programs that help electrical contractors and inspectors to work safer, smarter and always in National Electrical Code (NEC) compliance. The campaign kicks off with the release of the 2011 “Captain Code” pocket guide to the NEC changes.

Captain Code is used in conjunction with the 2011 National Fire Protection Association’s National Electrical Code manual and features Leviton’s iconic character, Captain Code, explaining the critical changes in the 2011 NEC manual that relate to wiring devices and telecommunication systems. The guide is coming this spring to Leviton distributors nationwide and is available immediately at www.leviton.com.

In addition to the publication of the Captain Code 2011 NEC Pocket Guide, Leviton has announced an interactive companion website, complete with online training, instant references to “Captain Code” and cross-indexes by application and article.

“This Smart Community campaign is our contribution to fostering leadership, by providing complimentary training resources, and our popular pocket guide helps to empower our electrical professional customers,” said William Marshall, Leviton’s senior vice president of sales and marketing.

Leviton has also developed a Learning Lab series based on the content found in the pocket guide. Learning Lab seminars will be held at participating Leviton distributor partner locations and presented by Leviton sales professionals. These seminars inform electrical professionals on what it takes to comply with the 2011 NEC.
