In October, 20 exhibitors at the 2012 NECA Show in Las Vegas received Showstopper awards. Winners were selected from 122 entries, all prominently displayed at the front of the exhibit floor. After the winners were selected, they were identified by blue ribbons in the Showstopper Showcase Room and a trophy at each winner’s booth. A panel composed of electrical contractors and ELECTRICAL CONTRACTOR contributors judged the products.

To be eligible for the award, products must have been introduced to the electrical market since Jan. 1, 2011; be currently available; and not be a previous Showstopper winner.

The 2012 Showstoppers are listed alphabetically. Here are your winners!

Only 10 percent lumen depreciation occurs over 80,000 hours. The warranty for the LED chip is seven years and five years for the driver.

4  CONEST  The JobTrac software contract change order management and communication control system provides complete job management capabilities for on-time, on-budget project completion. ConEst’s JobTrac keeps management in full control of projects by tracking budgeted and completed labor, material, equipment and subcontracts, including all modifications to the original contract, such as change orders, alternates, submittals and all correspondence, daily logs and documentation related to each project.

5  COOPER WIRING  The Arrow Hart commercial-grade USB charger/duplex receptacle replaces standard duplex receptacles with one providing dual USB charging ports. The USB ports are compatible with most electronic devices without needing a special adaptor or a computer. An LED indicator confirms that a device is connected. Prestripped wire leads facilitate installation. Tamper-resistant shutters comply with 2011 National Electrical Code
Article 406.12. It is UL listed.

6 DEWALT  This 20-volt (V) MAX lithium-ion powered ¼-inch, three-speed brushless impact driver is rated with 57 percent more run time compared to the company’s 20V MAX brushed motor tool. It is compact and weighs 3 pounds with a pushbutton chuck for one-handed operation. Three bright LED lights illuminate the work area and have a 20-second delay after trigger release. An easy-to-read “fuel” gauge shows the user the level of charge in the battery.

7  ERICSON  The E-Cart 2 explosion-proof mobile power distribution center provides a turnkey temporary power source for a wide range of hazardous location applications. Rugged construction stands up to harsh job-site environments, and its design complies with the latest safety standards and certification requirements (NEMA 3R rated and Class 1, Dev. 2 Groups C and D certified). The platform is constructed from heavy-duty aluminum and provides flexible configuration to meet specific job requirements.

8 EYE LIGHTING INTERNATIONAL  Kiaro LED architectural street and area luminaires feature an exclusive optical design engineered to deliver superior performance in controlling backlight, uplight and glare, while reducing energy consumption. The optical design delivers more light at a lower wattage and increased street-side lumens result in better visibility and reduce the number of required poles. Minimized critical components increase overall reliability.

9 FLIR/EXTECH  Extech’s MG300 two-in-one insulation meter is a true rms multimeter with a built-in insulation resistance tester and the added safety of wireless data streaming for remote monitoring and recording. With the device’s insulation-testing capabilities of a digital multimeter, electricians always are ready for the process, making it a part of routine predictive maintenance with faster troubleshooting and repairs without needing to carry additional tools.

10 FLUKE CORP  The Ti 125 industrial-commercial thermal imager is described as the lightest, most rugged and easiest-to-use professional imager available, enabling technicians to make fast, efficient inspections and thoroughly document problem areas. For optimum image clarity and scanning convenience, the IR-OptiFlex focus system produces images in good focus from 4 feet and beyond. IR-Fusion technology blends digital and infrared images into a single image.

11 GPS INSIGHT  Advanced GPS tracking, navigation and messaging software provides complete insight into all aspects of fleet operations. GPS tracking provides real-time location, unlimited history, engine diagnostics, comprehensive reports, alerts, routing and messaging tailored to individual customer requirements. A choice of tracking devices offers options for the level of information documented. No service contract is required, and monthly rental options are available.

12 GREENLEE  The patented, battery-powered portable hydraulic pump for crimping, cutting and pumping applications up to 10,000 pounds per square inch is powerful but lightweight. Its IntelliCrimp digital sensor provides real-time monitoring for crimping. For cutting and punching, the sensor provides automatic traction stop, retraction stop repeat and automatic stop. Powered by an 18V lithium-ion battery, the package weighs only 14 pounds.

13 LEGRAND/PASS & SEYMOUR  The P&S audible alarm ground-fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) receptacle introduces GFCI protection that can be both seen and heard. The device provides an audible warning of a tripped condition and that power to a receptacle is interrupted to basement sump pump systems, commercial freezers, refrigerated display cases, and other areas where a GFCI indicator light might not be visible and is an intelligent way to help minimize the likelihood of basement flooding, food spoilage and other damage caused by a power disruption.

14 LEVITON  The Zipline fluorescent retrofit system provides a way to transform existing high-cost, high-maintenance fixtures into energy-efficient and cost-effective lighting with less labor time than conventional retrofits. Ballast and sockets are combined in one component, an innovation integrating the entire lighting system into two simple-to-install components, cutting retrofit installation time by as much as half, meaning less downtime for facility managers and more productivity for contractors.

15 MILWAUKEE  The M12 subcompact cordless band saw is promoted as the most compact, lightest weight cordless band saw on the market. At less than half the weight and size of a traditional deep-cut band saw, the M12 band saw provides portability and one-handed operation with 15/8-inch cut capacity for clean cuts on the most common small-diameter metal-cutting applications. It is designed to deliver more than 150 cuts per charge with the included M12 REDLITHIUM XC battery.
