The Fiber Optics Association (FOA) certified its 20,000th Certified Fiber Optic Technician (CFOT) in October.

“The FOA is proud to announce another milestone,” said Jim Hayes, FOA president. “To reach this point, we have depended on the support of our CFOTs, our trainers and the industry. We’re proud to have provided them a unique service in return—helping to provide the qualified technicians that are required to make fiber optics a mainstream technology, especially with fiber to the home finally becoming real. The FOA is looking forward to continuing growth by supporting the continuing usage of fiber optic technology in all telecommunications applications.”

Since its inception in 1995, the FOA has been an international nonprofit organization focused on education and promoting professionalism in the fiber optics field. Currently, there are more than 160 schools and training organizations.

CFOTs benefit from increased job opportunities through the assurance of worker competence. The FOA also offers instructor certification and technical and training materials. Certified members are listed in an online database to support CFOTs in connecting with potential customers.
