It is with great sadness that we mark the passing of Larry C. Osius (1931–2016). Larry died Sunday, May 15, 2016.

The continuing advances of power hand tools receive much attention, and many are linked directly to lithium-ion battery platforms. Tools are lighter, more powerful for their weights, more productive and easier to use.

Dust Funnels

When drilling into a ceiling, it is likely that dust and other particles will fall onto the floor and the installer. To avoid this effect, keep funnels of various sizes in your drill kit to use as debris catchers.

"Dancing" the Conductors

When untwisting long lengths of metal-clad cable conductors, try the following technique using a variable speed, reversible drill motor and a roll of tape: Tape up three inches or more of the end of the conductors, then chuck the taped end up in the drill motor and tighten securely.

Chalk It Up

To find out where the other end of a conduit terminates, squeeze in a couple of ounces of colored carpenter's chalk. Put the shop vac on exhaust, and blow the chalk through the pipe. If conduit terminates at the box, the box will be covered inside with the colored chalk.
