According to Security Director News, access control and surveillance are important at Anytime Fitness, a health club whose 800 locations across the country stay open around the clock and are sometimes left unstaffed.

"The safety and security of our members and staff is our number one priority," said Mark Daly, Anytime media director. "As such, we are constantly seeking to upgrade our security system as new technology and developments evolve."

This summer, the company installed the Smarter Security Systems' Door Detective to deter tailgaters. The technology employs microprocessors and infrared beams to track how many individuals enter and leave each location. Alarms detect intruders and trigger red flags in surveillance recordings. If a violation is identified, the operator can be informed and watch surveillance footage from a remote location to decide whether the situation poses a risk.
