According to the Sioux Falls Argus Leader, Electric Construction is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year.  The company obtained the first ever electrical contractors license issued in Sioux Falls, S.D., which it used to replace the city's oil and gas lights with electric bulbs back in 1906.  Now the company serves some of the city's biggest employers, including Citibank and Automatic Data Processing.  The company owes its success to good customer service, well-trained workers, and ongoing efforts to keep up with the latest technologies, which has led to expansion into system wiring, voice and data cabling, and now fiber optics.  Its workforce is drawn from a Dakotas Joint Apprenticeship  Training Committee program that offers 900-hours of classroom instruction and 8,000 hours of on-the-job training.  Employees of the company helped found the local NECA chapter years ago.   Duane Mergen, secretary treasurer of the company, was recently elected to NECA's board.
