Students at Texas State Technical College in Sweetwater, Texas, will now be able to gain hands-on experience testing wind turbine systems with equipment supplied to the college by Megger. The tester manufacturer provided the college with insulation, ground, circuit-breaker testers and a special blade repair test lead kit for checking the condition of the lightning protection provisions in the blades of wind turbines as well as supporting documentary material.
The instruments will be used to train approximately 135 students enrolled in a two-year program. The training will cover a wide range of testing techniques, with particular emphasis on the repair of wind turbine blades. For this purpose, they will be used in conjunction with a specimen blade the college has on its site.
“The test equipment from Megger is a really valuable resource for us,” said Dan Templeton, program chair at Texas State College. “With it, our students will be able to gain valuable testing experience that will be extremely useful to them in their employment after they have graduated.”
Megger also is working with other community colleges throughout the United States and has its own training subsidiary, The AVO Institute, where it helps provide professionals within the electrical industry with skills that cover every facet of electrical testing.
