According to the Washington Post, Jack Fitzgerald, a 71-year-old car dealer in Rockville, Md., announced he would be taking steps to turn all of his auto dealerships “green.” The Montgomery County owner of Fitzgerald Auto Malls is converting all of his dealerships to wind power.

“Somebody asked me the other day, ‘Jack, do you think of yourself as an environmentalist?’ I think of myself as a used-car salesman, but if I’m going across my used-car lot and I see a piece of trash and I pick it up and put it in the can—put it right in the can—then I’m an environmentalist,” Fitzgerald said.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recognized his efforts, as he also will recycle 64 percent of company waste. The EPA named the car dealership a Green Power Partner, which is the first time any car dealership has received such an award. EC
