Progress Energy Florida awarded its largest incentive check to date for energy efficiency in new construction. Atlantic Housing Partners will received a check for $100,131 for the Enterprise Cove condominiums in Orange City, Fla., and the Club at Eustis Village apartments in Eustis, Fla.
Atlantic Housing Partners developed the two properties with energy-efficient features that are expected to eliminate 561,200 pounds of carbon dioxide and represent a savings of more than 415,000 kilowatt-hours.
Energy-efficient features at Enterprise Cove include heat pumps, windows, insulation and environmentally friendly floor plans.
Atlantic Housing Partners received the Home Advantage Premium Energy Star Builder designation for the development from Progress Energy. Enterprise Cove is certified Energy Star by Progress Energy, meaning the development is at least 15 percent more efficient than the national Model Energy Code while maintaining or improving indoor air quality—the highest standard in new home energy efficiency.

Progress Energy launched its “Save the Watts” campaign in June 2007 to raise customer awareness of programs to save money and reduce energy use. Known collectively as demand-side management, the programs encourage customers, contractors and builders to use electricity more wisely and to adopt renewable energy technology.
Since 1981, Progress Energy Florida customers have saved almost $825 million in energy costs and eliminated nearly 7 million tons of carbon dioxide through participation in demand-side management. In addition to eliminating the need for 17 peaking power plants, demand-side management also has averted the production of more than 10 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity, which is enough to power Orlando, Fla., for more than two years.
