Siemens has been named the most sustainable company in its industry group. The Swiss investment company RobecoSAM compiles the internationally renowned Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) each year for Dow Jones, a provider of financial market indices. In this year’s DJSI, Siemens ranked first in the Capital Goods Industry Group, which includes about 350 companies from seven sectors. Siemens was able to reaffirm its rating from the previous year and achieved a very high total score of 93 out of 100 points (after earning 93 points last year).

On Sept. 24, ELECTRICAL CONTRACTOR and Westex by Milliken hosted a webinar on the causes and consequences of arc flashes and the 2015 changes to NFPA 70E. The webinar focused on historical data, real accidents, body burn, and the differences between non-FR and FR clothing. Westex by Milliken featured a new HD super slow motion video of arc flashes on real 480V equipment with clothed mannequins in typical working position. The videos, which have led to a significant leap in understanding the arc flash hazard, showed arcs from 0.6 up to 40+ cals.

ELECTRI International has completed its investigation of current CW/CE practices now being used by well-established electrical contractors to determine if a CW/CE program improves EC competiveness. The research was conducted by Todd L. Sirotiak, CCP, LEED AP, MBA, PE, PhD., from Diversified Construction Services. The ECs involved in this study provide strong evidence that CW/CEs can be successfully used on a majority of projects. They recommend that CW/CE opportunities in the electrical labor field appear exceptional if ECs can find a way to capitalize upon them.
